"Casone" was founded in 1962. The four founders all came from master stone mason families and it is now one of the leading companies which operates in the field of stone work of Pietra Serena (sandstone) and Pietra Colombina (or Pietra Forte Fiorentina) . These outstanding results were obtained through the combination of the traditional manual experience with the most advanced technology available in this field. The balance between the two allows for an ample range of workmanship and materials, from urban decoration to modern architecture, from restoration to substitution and restoration with ancient manual techniques.

HEADQUARTERS
QUARRIES

The production process begins at the quarries where the various materials are first selected and then separated according to their quality. The materials are then sent to the workshops for the manufacturing process. When the extraction has been completed, the quarry is closed down. The original environment is recreated replacing soil and cultures according to a project planned before the quarry is opened.

WORKSHOP

The second phase of the manufacturing process takes place in the workshop. The project is analysed and the operating parameters are defined. The cutting and surface work of the stone is carried out with specific equipment. A qualified technician follows the process constantly. At the same time specialised workers carry on the hand work which is not possible with machines. An operator checks the quality of the completed work. The material is stocked and ready for shipping.

PIETRA COLOMBINO

The particular characteristics of the stones extracted from our quarries, the easy working quality and the bond with the territory are the reasons for which they have been used to build urban centres in central Italy for many centuries . If on one hand the use of these stones is essential when restoring and paving streets with slabs, on the other hand recent cultural trends have been considering stone for various contexts. Within the process which re-discovers natural materials in architecture, stone becomes one of the founding elements in new designs.

BUILDINGS

The use of stone in modern buildings, especially on building facades, represents a step up in the quality of the building's "skin". The use of stone together with other materials (such as steel, glass, etc.) sets into the most modern of urban contexts the value of using natural materials in terms of history, corrosion resistance, and building aesthetics.

INTERIORS

Floorings for interiors are one of the many possible uses of stone. The highly uniform surface conveys the perception of an ample space. Strength together with resistance in time and the material's natural connotation all contribute in conveying prestige and elegance to the environment.

RESTORATIONS

Restoration of monuments and stone buildings must be carried out following parameters and those necessary steps to ensure that the final result respects the initial idea. Therefore, any maintenance or substitution must be carried out by qualified workers trained in the use of the most advanced conservation technologies and techniques.

PAVINGS

In Medieval and Renaissance times towns were paved with stone slabs and in central Italy the most commonly used stone was Pietra Serena. In order to maintain this cultural heritage ongoing maintenance and substitution of worn slabs is necessary. In this case one must associate old working techniques with new technologies. In the course of time towns have changed and the wear and tear undergone by the stone slabs has increased therefore the stone used in substitution must have exceptional qualities in terms of physical and mechanical resistance, as can be found in Pietra Extradura and Pietra Colombino.

PAVERS

In the past flagstone and cobblestone paving was very common. Restoring and re-paving in these cases is more complex as it requires a careful selection of materials. First of all a colour and type research must be made, then a difficult installation will be carried out to respect the urban and historical context of the place.

ACCESSORIES

Problems in connection with special elements such as drainage wells, lids and drainage grills, are solved creatively making a series of necessary accessories to enrich the paving. Advanced technical solutions together with manual artistic workmanship of expert stone-masons make it possible for any special, essential item to be made either upon request or based on a project .
The wise use of detail in these accessories determines an increase in value of the paving.

ASSEMBLY

All the work involved in building facades, working on pavings and restorations, requires specific and highly qualified competence which can be guaranteed only through experience and thorough organisation of production processes. To obtain the maximum result it is necessary to know the material, its history and the various uses, the different manufacturing processes must be carried out carefully. The assembly and installation is the last phase of this complex process from the project to the final execution.

GRANITE

Granite is one of the most important natural stones, it is the most common intrusive stone and for this reason it has been used for centuries and is still used today in different contexts. It appears in different colours, mostly in shades of grey, yellow and pink. As for any stone, its surface can be treated with traditional or modern techniques.

PAVING SLABS

Granite slabs, as well as Pietra Serena ones, are also used in paving roads in town centres. The material is worked on with traditional techniques and requires a specific colour research when planning. The analysis of the colour becomes particularly important when it is necessary to substitute old deteriorated slabs to maintain a uniform colour composition on the surface of the paving.

ASSEMBLY

The frequent use of mosaics, lines and drawings created both with slabs and granite pavers and the possibility of combining different colours makes the phase in which the work is carried out the fundamental act for an optimal execution of the project. In this case experience is important because it helps solve the numerous problems connected with this type of application where the human element is still central to the installation process.

TRACHYTE

Trachyte is a very resistant grey or yellow stone mainly used for paving. As for other stones, the rediscovery of this material for its use in different contexts or combined with other materials is very interesting. The culture and history transmitted by natural stones, the physical and mechanical characteristics and their versatility represent more and more an alternative to industrial artifacts.

SLABS

The use of material when carrying out restoration work or in a more general urban context is almost always tied to the territory and the history of the place of the intervention. For this reason trachyte, thanks to its resistance to the wear and tear and to physical and mechanical stress, is often used to pave squares and streets
in some of the most important historical town centres.

ASSEMBLY

Paving squares and roads requires great amounts of material. It is essential to have a great production capacity and an efficient organization when installing so that these areas of public space can be returned rapidly to the public.

ISTRIA

Istria stone belongs to the great family of natural stones which have been used for centuries for a variety of applications. Time has allowed us to learn about the different characteristics and to choose their use. It is the case of this stone which is mainly used near sea environments. Its morphological characteristics make it very resistant to deterioration caused by brine and constant contact with sea water. There are two types: "kanfanr" kanfanar or yellow Istria of a pale yellow and spot-like veins, "kirmenyak" known as D'Orsera stone is beige with distinctive filament-like veins.

PAVING SLABS

Istria stone has a very light colouring and is very resistant to brine deterioration, for this reason it is used when building ports or near the sea. It is often combined with other natural stones alternating colours and indent combinations.

ASSEMBLY

The great versatility of this material allows it to be used in various contexts: paving, columns for urban decoration, steps and level surfaces. Different from other materials which rapidly deteriorate when in contact with water, Istria stone is ideal for building pools, fountains and swimming pools.
